We appreciate President Charles Michel’s support for Georgia, and the direct engagement of his designated representative in the EU-initiated political dialogue, and we reiterate our Government’s commitment to result-oriented political dialogue, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated during today’s meeting with Christian Danielsson, designated representative of President of the European Council Charles Michel. The ruling team will participate in every format supported by the EU to boost constructive processes and bring about de-escalation, the Head of Government added. The Prime Minister and President Charles Michel’s designated representative discussed issues causing a difference of opinion between the opposition and the ruling team. The meeting at the Government Administration reiterated that it is vitally important for all sides to be guided by the interests of the Georgian people and the country, the only way toward depolarization and concrete, tangible results. The conversation also touched on the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to Brussels, including high-level meetings at the European Commission, the European Council, and NATO. The Georgia-EU Association Council’s format, for its part, will discuss Georgia’s progress and success in the implementation of the Association Agreement.
The Prime Minister recapitulated that the Georgian Government is taking every step necessary for the country to apply formally for EU membership in 2024.
“Once again, I would like to express my genuine appreciation for President Charles Michel’s involvement in this process, another demonstration of his personal and the EU’s interest in our country. It emphasizes the importance of Georgia, our country, to the EU, also expressing trust in our country. Consequently, we, all actors, are obligated to exercise due responsibility in handling this issue. On behalf of our team, I would like to reaffirm our commitment to being a result-oriented side making concrete decisions, something we have repeatedly stated, including during our meetings with the opposition, in various formats. After today’s meeting, I would like to reiterate this commitment. Mister Danielsson is a very experienced diplomat. Once again, I welcome him to Tbilisi. He is quite familiar with Georgia. We have high hopes that this process will be finalized very soon. We are counting on a constructive dialogue and the opposition’s constructive attitude,” Irakli Garibashvili said.
