According to H.E. Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance of Georgia, diplomatic corps accredited in the country had an opportunity to get exposed to the customs control procedures practiced at Kazbegi Customs Check-Point.
“Inland Revenue Service subordinated to the Ministry of Finance of Georgia held numerous meetings with Embassies of EU Member States with an aim of sharing ideas and experience on the referred topic. The Inland Revenue Service was commanded at such interactions for their measures carried out within the process of enforcement of sanctions. Therefore, I wish to express gratitude to the Customs Department and each customs officer for the efficient and effective control, which they deliver as we speak and 24/7” noted H.E. Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance of Georgia.
According to him, Georgia is a frontrunner in the region with its transparent public sector and statistical data on the foreign trade of Georgia is available for any interested individual.
“Statistical data on foreign trade (incl. import) of Georgia with any country is public information and regularly posted on the website of the Inland Revenue Service. This information is fully accessible for any interested individual and notably for our partners. Thus, we remain open for cooperation in any format. Naturally, effective enforcement of such scalable sanctions is impossible without close international cooperation and coordination. Room for improvement still exists towards this end and could be found useful by establishing international instruments of information exchange in real time that would enable the control of the entire supply chain on the one hand, while promoting a hassle-free advancement of legitimate trade on the other hand” concluded H.E. Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance of Georgia.
